Ulzzang Transformation

I'm Asian and like many (Asian) girls I like Korean culture and especially the beauty ideal of Korea very much!

I wrote this guide to share with you, but also in an attempt to create a community where everyone can help each other out
This is site is full of thoughtful personal tips, tricks and advise that I hope will help you to look like a Korean/ ulzzang.
With that said everything here is far away from a scientific work so please judge for yourself!

I hope you find some of the things helpful!

I always welcome advise, criticism, own experiences from you so please leave comments if there's anything bothering you or if you want to share something.
A place for every of your comments, questions, etc
UPDATES!!! Ruined my eyes writing 3 fashion posts (and that hairstyle post for you guys!!! Hope they are good for something!
Was too lazy to revise or check my writing in the end, so if you see some terribly embarassing spelling mistakes, yeah.. I really am that stupid!

I want to revamp the whole layout, add 2 posts about putting together an outfit and 'trends and staples', but not this lyfe man!
Oh yeah.. how do the new posts load? I know a shitload of pictures, but I don't compromise, pick up your wifi game!

KOREAN LEASURE PURSUITS

You're getting more and more Korean.

But to complete your whole transformation you need to adapt a few things Korean girls like to do in their spare time (and that is not just writing nonsense stuff!)

Before we get serious, I'm afraid I have to give a little speech again.

And before the speech another note: Since I don't watch dramas, I have propably miss out a few things Korean girls like to do.
So if you have any idea of what they are else doing when they got the time, please let me know!
Thanks!

So, here we go!

Ahem. One of the few things Koreans and Japanese have in common (ok I bet if you include the whole culture, they have more than a few things in common, but we are not talking about that stuff) is their love for
cute stuffs,
pseudo-order and
pseudo sophistication.

What does that mean?

Cute stuff is not hard to understand.
But, you should know that Koreans define cute in another way that we probably used to.
If we think about cute stuff, we think more the Japanese way, like fluffy, baby-ish things, Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma etc.

Koreans are even in this field more matured.
Their cute things are decorated with trees, flowers, couples, or senseless cute phrases.
Illustrations they like often have a graphic touch (they look as if they were drawn) and not digital (created on a pc).

Pseudo-order
Koreans are mad about pseudo-order.
Pseudo-order means you pretend to keep your things organized, but in reality you're just wasting your time arranging and sorting them following a confusing number of systems of boxes, compartments, partitions etc
To put it short: You make everything much more complicated than necessary and risk losing track of things.
But it looks cute.

As well as with things, they also like to pseudo-organize their thoughts, i.e. they note down every little effin thing.

They have like a hundreds of organizers with hundreds of compartment and special pages, where you can fill in your personal info, timetable, to do list, wishes and resolutions, diet plan, travel plan, daily plan, etc

They have thousands of exercise books, memo pads and sticky notes to write down
whatever could be of slightest importance.

They have tens of thousands different designs for wallets and ID card holder or passport card holders or credit card holders. Or a combination of those.

They have millions of other useless things from bags to put in bags, to travel bags, to door organizer that hang at doorhandles, to cable organizers for earphones, earphone bags, mobile bags, camera bags, etc

Really every pseudo-organization shit that you can think of.

Pseudo-sophistication.
This is probably something that all Asian countries (at least China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam) have in common.
It means that you want to appear a bit high-class, a bit western orientated.

Koreans adore Paris for example. The capital of France, the probably most noble sounding language ever and the capital of Love.
They love the motif of the Eiffle Tower or French phrases.

Other Western countries/cities they like are London (not so much, but they like the Union Jack) and Germany.
There's acutally are pseudo-order-things-manufacturer that gives his products (pseudo) German names.

The End.

Now, here come a few concrete things you could try and do.

#1 Scrabbooking
Buy yourself a Korean diary/organizer.

Stick it full with stickers, write down your plans, dreams, poems, achievements, recipes, useless phrases (what did you acquires a Korean handwriting for?)
Just be creative.

#2 Take polaroids

Oh yes!
Polaroids are very very pseudo-sophiticatish-european like!
And also vintage-like!

There are two kind of cameras you can buy:
Either a classical one, to stick to the European style!
Or a Korean one, which is more playful and cute!

Take pictures of wannabe-artsy things and stick them into your organizer!
Korean max!

#3 Be a fangirl
Serious, I think all of you found the bias already, so this tipp is a bit useless.
But I found it still worth mentioning!

Still, maybe there's one thing about your idolizing which isn't Korean enough.
So here's what to do:
  • Add your bias on twitter! Check if your idol has a twitter account or if his band has! Follow that account and check if they got something new every minute!
  • Stalk your idol's cyworld homepage! Find out his link no matter what and stalk it too every minute! You can rotate between Twitter - Cyworld - Twitter - Cyworld
  • Make a cake on the birthday of your idol and anniversaries!
Baking is very pseudo-sophisticated and will also boost your ego, because you did something so cool for your idol!
Tweetpic the picture of your cake to him and wait for his reply!
  • Buy his albums, photo books, concert DVD's and other memorabilia
  • Be absolutely fanatic about him! If you ever see him, scream Opppaaaa until his eyes hurt!
And if he should ever date someone, hate him to the max!
Terrorize his twitter and the twitter of his (probably) famous girlfriend and her Cyworld! Phrases like Yo bitch, you think you're good enough for Jung Do-oppa? Don't you dare to pester him with your ugly face are the nicest things you could say. No mercy! He is yours!

#4 Watch Korean shows and dramas!

If you don't receive Korean channels at home (yet), persuade your parents to add them or try to do it yourself!

Watch Mnet, Music Core and all that stuff and woo for your favorite idol!

Of course you can also watch them on youtube, but what's that against sitting in front of the TV and be a part of it!
It feels like being in Korea!

As for the dramas, you're probably doing that already!
If you like something of the drama, check if it's for sale on ebay (memorabilia-wise)
